  • Music Day

Thank you visiting the AICJ Principal and IB Coordinator Blog,

On February 12th AICJ students from grades 7 to 11 attended the school Music Day at the International Conference Center, in the Peace Memorial Park.

At the event, in the morning session, parents and students were treated to some wonderful individual performances on the piano, violin and some singing, with two of our foreign teachers even getting in on the act as a warm up, impressing the students by singing in Japanese. The Japanese group WASABI also entertained us with a mix of classic Japanese instruments but with a modern twist.

In the afternoon session each class performed a song on the stage. A nerve-wrecking experience for all grade 7 students doing this for the first time, but made all the more nerve-wrecking due to the flu virus having swept through some classes. Despite several classes across several grades having students laid up with flu and off school, the performances were fantastic and the students thoroughly enjoyed the experience and did themselves proud.

This event once again showed that hard work, commitment and team work can help students achieve their goals. Despite there having to be a winner and a loser, all of the students should feel proud of their performances. I know I would not have felt comfortable in my school days, standing up in front of my peers and singing!

Please visit the blog again next week for some more updates from the IB Coordinator.

    Thank you,

    David Cooper
    Principal

  • AICJ graduate goes to Australia and the Law of Diminishing Returns
    Posted by: Admin

This week we said goodbye and good luck to one of AICJ's IB graduates, Ayumi, who left for Australia on Tuesday. After successful completion of her IB Diploma, Ayumi decided to take up the opportunity to study nursing at Queensland University of Technology in Brisbane, Australia. It has always been Ayumi's ambition to study nursing in Australia and we wish her the best of luck for her future.

G10 students, who started their IB Diploma in January 2016, are now beginning their CAS activities and making good progress in their studies. In economics this week, students investigated the law of diminishing returns and explored why a firm's costs can fall and then rise as they expand production. To do this students created their own cartoon strips explaining the economic theory (see photographs).

  • Korean Education Networking Forum
    Posted by: Admin

Thank you for visiting this blog,

On January 28th of this year, for 5 days, 8 AICJ Senior high School students and I set off for the 3rd Korean Education Networking Forum. This is the 3rd consecutive year that AICJ students have participated in this event as representatives of Japan. 7 of the students were from our domestic course and 1 IB student attended the event.

Although Seoul was a little cold, the students enjoyed chatting and getting to know other students from East Asian countries, South Korea, Taiwan, and China. The focus of the forum is networking and collaborating with students from different countries using English as the tool to communicate. 2 AICJ students delivered wonderful individual presentations on the tradition of the Japanese Kimono and Japanese culture, language and animation.

The students were also all separated into groups and had to work with their teammates to prepare and deliver a group presentation. Lots of creativity and thought went into these and students worked late into the night to prepare them.

There were also several tours around Seoul, a musical performance and lots of delicious food. Most importantly all the students that attended had an amazing time and made friends that they will hopefully keep in touch with over the coming years.

This forum is a fantastic opportunity for students to build friendships and networks with students of a similar age in East Asia and share each other's cultures all through the medium of English. AICJ look forward to attending the 4th Korean Education Networking Forum next year.
