AICJ Alumni Association "Akizukai"

alumni group picture

The first batch of students that graduated from AICJ senior high school reunited with their friends at AICJ on 13th August 2010 and formed the AICJ Alumni Association "Akizukai" which will be led and organised by the AICJ alumni. The word "Akizu" used in the name has several meanings. It is said that the word was used in ancient time from the Nara period of the history of Japan. Later, because of the way dragonflies flew in the autumn, they look like rice ears flying in the air, people used to call dragonflies akitsu. Akitsu is familiar to AICJ students since it is used as the school emblem. The school values Japanese identity. Furthermore, Hiroshima prefecture was formally called Aki province, which is pronounced the same, therefore the alumni association is named "Akizu-kai" (Akitsu Association). The first year graduates of about 40 alumni from different parts of Japan met at AICJ campus.

The alumni association regulations were developed and the members were decided. After that all members planted a cherry blossom tree together in the school yard. There was also a presentation of the "Record of spirit". It has a message from each graduate engraved on a copperplate wishing each dream to come true. The plate will be displayed in the school. During the reunion we spoke about how each other was doing and spent time with friends and former teachers. When we were students at AICJ, we as senior students were given opportunities to work closely with the school on many school events. Now, as the first group of AICJ graduates, we want to help and support the school and junior fellows. We all hope that the alumni association will become a place where all can share time and memories together just like they used to when at AICJ.
