Colour Blindness

|

Grade 8 is currently learning about sight and the work of the famous Japanese professor Shinobu Ishihara who developed the colour blindness test in 1918 at the University of Tokyo.

Most colour blind people struggle with the colours green and red. Test yourself on the plate I created!

The Ishihara test is still used all around the world today to test for colour blindness, which is a problem for 1 in 9 boys around the world. Girls rarely suffer from colour blindness.  Because it is part of the faulty XY Chromosome

We also study stereo vision, the ability to see in three dimensions and the common eyesight problems of near and far sightedness.

Next we will move onto the sense of hearing, smell and taste.  Looking at the range of audible sounds, damage to hearing caused by noise pollution, the connection between memory and smell then finally the areas of the tongue which detect different flavours.
